How To Choose The Best Multivitamins For You.
Supplements have become very popular in the last decades. In fact, most people believe they are meeting their nutritional requirements by taking a multivitamin. They also believe taking natural products will keep them healthy. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Not all-natural products out there are equal. The fact is most supplements sold in the market are not naturally made.
If you are using synthetic vitamins, you might be at risk of depleting your body from real nutrients. Synthetic vitamins are artificially made from the lab. The body does not recognize them. Thus, they may not be absorbed properly or they can create an imbalance in the system. Some patients may experience side effects such as headache, feeling nauseous or vomiting. Here is a list of common synthetic vitamins to avoid:
Look for clues on your product’s label that offer insight into the origin of the vitamin.
- Vitamin A: Retinyl Palmitate
- Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Thiamine Mononitrate, Thiamine Hydrochloride
- Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): Riboflavin
- Pantothenic Acid: Calcium D-Pantothenate
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
- Vitamin B12: Cyanocobalamin
- PABA (Para-aminobenzoic Acid): Aminobenzoic Acid
- Folic Acid: Pteroylglutamic Acid
- Choline: Choline Chloride, Choline Bitartrate
- Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): Ascorbic Acid
- Vitamin D: Irradiated Ergosteral, Calciferol
- Vitamin E: dl-alpha tocopherol, dl-alpha tocopherol acetate or succinate
NOTE: The “dl” form of any vitamin is synthetic.
Other Toxic Ingredients to Avoid In Supplements
- Magnesium stearate (or stearic acid)
- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) disguised as “natural flavors”
- Carnauba wax is used in car wax and shoe polish
- Titanium dioxide is a carcinogen
If you are currently taking a multivitamin, make sure it is a plant-based supplement. Only a few brands contain vitamins that are derived from concentrated, whole-food plants. Choosing the right product is essential for health maintenance and the prevention of disease. After all, it is not the number of products consumed that matters, but taking the right one, at the right dosage, and for the required amount of time that will provide you with the most benefits.
