On Wednesday, March 18th, 2020, the government declared a state of emergency in Ontario to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Until further notice, we are all encouraged to practice social distancing and stay at home.

Many of us may feel anxious about this situation. Within the course of a few weeks, the world has been plunged into the unknown as the rate of infection rises. We watch the news with mixed feelings and uncertainty.

During these unprecedented times, let’s take a step back and look at the statistics. Until now, the rate of mortality on a global scale is 4.4% (1). According to Jean-Francois Delfraissy, a French immunologist, 85 to 90% of the population can recover (10). People at risk are the elderly, immunocompromised patients, or those with a medical condition.

Children seem to have a lower rate of infection. Only 0.2% of this population have become critically ill (6). According to Dr. Heather Dicky, an integrative health expert, high levels of melatonin and low inflammation seem to be a protective factor (2).

Wuhan is emerging from lockdown after 2 months. The city has not seen recent cases in five days (4). This is good news, even though the numbers continue to rise on a global scale.

No one knows how long this situation will last. And unfortunately, this pandemic is affecting each and every one of us. In the midst of this chaos, there is one crucial element we need to remind ourselves of: we should not allow fear to dictate our lives. As a wave of panic spreads around the world, will you be among those who remain calm?

On March 11th, China closed its last temporary hospital in Wuhan (8). As of March 19th, the UK government is no longer considering covid-19 as highly infectious (7). Yet, the media is aggressively reporting fatalities. Conflicting messages emerge if you research the information on the net.

On the surface, there seems to be much confusion. But if you go deep within yourself, this abrupt pause provides an opportunity to awaken. This situation gives us plenty of time to re-connect with our authentic selves. We are reminded that stability always come from within. It can never come from the ever-changing circumstances of life.

During this difficult time, many questions emerge. Beside the spread of a virus, is there more to it? From a personal perspective, we realize that life has more meaning than the daily routine we get caught in. There is also more depth to explore in each of us than we may have thought.

Prayers are a form of connection with the divine realm. In a world of free will, the divine realm can only intervene through our asking. Spirituality is a facet that can be explored outside a religious context. Many believe that the power of thoughts combined with prayers can make a difference. In fact, a study has shown that mass meditation can reduce the rate of war and terrorism by 76% (3). Can our intention mitigate this pandemic?

For those who are pragmatic, this is the time to take actionable steps to improve one’s health. The following suggestions may not prevent or cure a viral infection including the coronavirus. They can enhance your general well-being. For those who are looking for tips to prime the immune system, here’s what you can do:

  • Drink plenty of filtered water throughout the day. Water helps eliminate toxins from the body.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Lower your stress levels. Relaxation helps the body cope better with any type of infection.
  • Mild aerobic exercise can improve lung function. Circulation is improved as well.
  • Increase the number of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. These foods feed the friendly gut bacteria enhancing your immune system.
  • Load your body with vitamin C through home-made juices. New York hospitals are treating coronavirus patients with intravenous vitamin C after promising results from China (9).
  • Take vitamin D in liquid form (2,000 to 5,000 IU/d).
  • Turn off the wi-fi when not in use (at night for example). 5G seems to be detrimental to health (5).

Keep a positive mindset. As we are writing history, we are also creating the outcome we wish to experience moment to moment. Let’s not invite irrational thinking and anxiety into the collective consciousness.

Perhaps this is a time to let go of negative past experiences and move forward with a better version of ourselves. If you have been suffering from a health condition, you may want to take the necessary steps to treat it. We often forget we have an innate ability to heal.

Positive emotions are the foundation of harmony and balance. Today, we are called to maintain hope and be resilient in the face of adversity. Will we be able to determine the future of our society by maintaining a positive frequency?

Most of us have gone through many personal challenges. Up to now, many of us have been able to overcome them with grace. Today, we are facing a difficult time together… on a global scale. We can use the same tools to overcome this threat. That is: knowledge, discernment, faith, and courage. Let’s see if we can make a difference!

Stay healthy and be strong!
